Schatz wins but the Posse was tough

Schatz wins but the Posse was toughSchatz

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – May 19, 2016. After the wash out of night one of the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln the battle for Sprintcar supremacy e World of Outlaws and the PA Posse continued. The regular clash between these two giants of US Sprintcars is eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide.

At Lincoin at least Donny Schatz did none thing and that was to clearly stamping himself as the top dog .Earning pole after his strong qualifying and Dash win the seven times Outlaw Champ lead from the start and every lap of the 35 lap journey to stake the Outlaws claim for supremacy .

The win might look easy from the official results but Schatz hard to stay on his marks as Danny Dietrich, Brent Marks and Greg Hodnett chased down the Champ right to the flag and in the process burnt off any other likely Outlaw challengers. Behind Hodnett came Logan Schuchart and Lucas Wolfe. Brad Sweet was the next best across the stripe.schatz crosses first

Schatz was clear and precise through the traffic but he needed to be as Dietrich always looked like he could threaten the lead. In taking his sixth win for the Outlaws season Schatz became the first Outlaw since 1997 to get over the top of the Posses in their backyard and claim the “Gettysburg Clash.

With Schatz giving the Outlaws some bragging rights partisan Posses fans would say 2spots on the podium probably squared up the argument so the question will now need to be resolved at the two night of the Morgan Cup at Williams Grove this Friday and Saturday night. Now with six wins in the bag Schatz has move up in second place and is making Brad Sweet’s lead of 91 points looking just a little vulnerable.

Driver quotes:

Donny Schatz: “It’s great to win here at Lincoln, especially after never winning here before,” Schatz said. “Everybody was pretty equal and you can see that because not too many cars got lapped during the race and that’s just the nature of the beast. That front-row starting spot was key, as it has been at a lot of races this year, and I am glad I could capitalize on it.

“The expectation is you want to win every night, and it’s not going to happen. We haven’t been that bad but for the standards this team has put forth the last several years, it kind of seems that way. We have tried several things, and I guess to be in the situation we are in right now where we can try these new things and make ourselves better, that’s going to pay off for us at the end of the year.”

Danny Dietrich:” This was a good run for the team,” Dietrich said. “To be able to run second out of 38 or 39 cars it’s definitely a good feeling. We’re satisfied with our finish tonight, just too bad it couldn’t be one position better.Danny Dietrich

“Donny [Schatz] is a heck of a racer, catching him and passing him was going to be a whole other problem. He was in the preferred on the start so that made things a little tougher, but congrats to him and we’re going to move on to The Grove tomorrow.”

Brent Marks :” I got to second there, got past Danny [Dietrich] in turn three, and I thought he was going to slide me back, so I drove it in too hard and just got over the ledge a little bit and he got back by me. I felt like I blew the race there because I felt like we had a good enough car that if we got some laps we could run down Donny. Don’t know if I could have done anything – maybe shown him my nose and put some pressure on him, but never got the opportunity. Other than that, I felt like we had a good run against the Outlaws and I can’t complain.”Brent Marks

David Gravel Outlaw winner at Tri-State

David GravelHAUBSTADT, Ind. — May 14, 2016  Tri-State Speedway and David Gravel gets into the grove that found the CJB #5 on top of the podium and record his second win for the season. Over resent weeks Gravel has found impressive speed since taking over the seat at CJB Motorsports.Gravel and team at Tri-State

Australian Champion Kerry Madsen was fast and impressive early in the heat a and the dash .His early nights forms gaining him the pole for the 40 lap A Main. Australia’s other entry World Series Champion Jamie Veal unlike Madsen had a difficult early start to his night and the Warnambool Wizard had to run from the Last Chance Showdown to gain his A main transfer.

Gravel started alongside Madsen and soon rounded up the Aussie Champ to lead the 24 car field into the 40 lap journey. While Gravel’s speed was no surprise the performances of no Outlaws USAC ‘s 2014 Sprintcar Champion Brady bacon and the youngster Parker Price – Miller was .The two non outlaws were at the top of the points heading into the A main and maintained their superb form in chasing down Gravel and Madsen.

Gravel had to work to keep the Bacon challenge in check to ensure he crossed the stripe in the lead position and take his win tally to 2 for the season. Bacon’s second was his second Outlaw podium after also finishing runner up last year behind the then CJB Motorsports driver Paul McMahan

Bacon at tri state

Madsen slipped back from his pole position to finish in 5th position after losing his fourth spot to Schatz with 10 laps left .Jamie Veal in the Indy Race Parts #71 started from position 20 and move passed 7 car to finish 13th and win the hard charger award.

Driver post race quotes :

David Gravel   “I saw Brady [Bacon] on the bottom, so I had to move down and protect it,” Gravel said. “I thought in lapped traffic we were pretty good but it was hard to pass lapped cars, so I was just happy that I could move down and hold him off.”

“I thought it was big when I cleared two guys on the bottom when Brady was running the bottom, and I know that gave me a little bit of time,” Gravel said. “I was just trying to move around and make them guess where I was going, because running first you don’t always know what is going on behind you and it’s a disadvantage.”

Brady Bacon  “We had a really good car, and we have had a really good car all year,” Bacon said. “This is my best chance every year to get a chance to win, and we were really close. It is easier to swallow after last year leading most of the race – tonight we were charging, but just couldn’t get there.”

Parker Price -Miller “Haubstadt is probably one of my favorite tracks in a winged car,” Price-Miller said. “We had a fast car…I think we had a car that could’ve won, but I just made too many mistakes and lapped traffic was really hectic. I got a little tight in the dirty air, but I’ll take it, it was a good run.The World of Outlaws are the greatest out there and the toughest in the business…if you can run with them and finish on the podium, it’s a good night.”Parker Price Miller

Jamie Veal’s next two dates with the Outlaws

Veal Eldora pit

Jamie Veal’s next two dates with the Outlaws

The Warnambool wizard Jamie veal will make his next World of Outlaw appearance this Friday at the Bob Morgan Classic at Plymouth Speedway and then Veal will back up on the Saturday night at Tri State Speedway. The two nights sees Jamie Veal right in the middle of the Hoosier State.Jamie veal’s Indy Race Parts team have been busy building a new race car after Jamie had an unfortunate incident on the last lap at Eldora which destroyed the Indy Race Parts race car..Jamie Veal 71 Indy Parts ride

Championship leader heading into Plymouth Brad Sweet looks likely to become the first Outlaw in 2016 to top the US$100,000.00 mark. Sweet sits on top of the points and money list with earning of US$98,300.00 but is closely followed by Schatz with US$93,400.00.

In his two appearances with the Outlaws Veal has made both a Mains and with a new car under him and improving confidence Veal’s chances should not be overlooked .A time back home in Australia Veal have taken on and beaten many of the Outlaws but on unfamiliar tracks the task becomes a little harder.

Joining Veal in the field will be the man of the moment Kerry Madsen after taking the Outlaws apart with two huge wins last week end at Eldora

Madsen double boom at the BIG E

Madsen boomMadsen double boom at the BIG E

Australia’s Sprintcar Champion Kerry Madsen went Boom ,Boom at the  Big E,Eldora Speedway.Without a win with the Outlaws since August 2015 Kerry Madsen took all before him wining both nights of the BIG E World of Outlaws and USAC “Lets Race Two show” Madsen outlaw winner

Madsen’s performances have not been results wise what the Keneric Team would have hoped for at the start of the season. Sitting in a lowly 14th position in the points when the Team rolled into Eldora the weekend would remind the Outlaws if they ever needed to be of the sheer determination, raw speed of the so called Mad Man from St Mary in Western Sydney. Madsen was fast all weekend and ended each qualifying session near the top of the times.

The Big E held no worries for Madsen with a Kings Royal win in his trophy cupboard Madsen set about setting the pace. With all the way wins on both nights it might suggest he had an easy road to the checkers, far from it .

The All Star Circuit of Champion regular and ex Outlaw Chad Kemenah chased Madsen home on both nights and at time looked to have Madsen covered. There was no other driver over the two nights that appeared to be able to haul Madsen in .The Australian AU1 running under his Outlaw number #29 was clearly delighted with his powerful and emphatic triumph, the $20K would also have delighted the Team.

The return to form so quickly after missing the A main at Jacksonville will certainly have those sitting ahead of him in the points concerned .The completion within the Outlaw group is crazy , points and race wins hard to achieve and with the keneric Team and Madsen firing at this level its get that much harder.

While Madsen taking was taking all the applause Australia’s other representative Jamie Veal made both A Mains finishing 22nd on night one and 17th  night two.

Driver post race interviews

Kerry Madsen

“We’ve been quick all year and we just haven’t showcased it. The guys just stepped it up – the car was a rocket ship all weekend,” Madsen said. “Just to get this up here the last two nights is fantastic. It was a hell of a race.”

“I didn’t know who it was but I knew he was there so I stepped it up and nearly junked the thing in two,” Madsen said. “I thought, I better not do that again. I definitely upped the tempo when I saw him and I knew if there was one hiccup, the line he was running, he would drive right by me. It was intense.”

Chad Kemenah

“I could hit right through the middle of the race track, I don’t know why,” said Kemenah, who finished second for the second night in a row. “I could go wherever I needed to go. I probably showed (Madsen) my nose there too soon there with Kerry and he knew I was there. Hats off to them guys, they did a really good job both nights. When you start up there, you need to capitalize and I did.”

Daryn Pittman

“ Luckily , I was in third the whole time and did’t see what was happening behind me. I could hear them and somebody would show me their nose every once in a while so I figured it was getting pretty heated.

We had a good weekend .Our car is close. We’re just a little off. Kerry and Chad both were kind of in a class of their own this weekend

The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series returns to action on Friday, May 13 as the series makes its first ever appearance at Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway. For more information and to learn how to purchase tickets, visit WoOSprint.com/Plymouth-Speedway.

Jamie Veal’s top 10 Outlaw finish

Jamie Veal’s top 10 Outlaw finishJamie Veal 71 Indy Parts ride

Jamie Veal’s US tour opener with the World of Outlaws and Indy Race Parts finished with a solid top 10 placing.

Settling into the seat of his new race car the Indy Race parts with the unfamiliar #71 on the tail Veal settled in quickly as he pumped the gas and became one with the Jacksonville. Quarter mile, racy bullring during hot laps and qualifying.jamie veal being pushed away

Qualifying strongly and facing a tough first up heat against Saldana, Stewart, Schatz and Gravel Veal finished a strong 3rd and gained automatic entry in the nights a main .A difficult night as illustrated by both Ian and Kerry Madsen finding them running the B main looking for the transfer spot. The Australian Champion Kerry Madsen still carrying the #29 in preference to the AU1 finished in 8th and missed a transfer to the A main.

A seasoned campaigner in Australia up against the elite in World Sprintcar racing the nerves might have needed some settling down but once the #71 fired up and was pushed away the concentration and drive would have been completely focused on putting the Indy Race Parts #71 in the best possible position once the green flag was given to the 24 car field powered to the first corner.

A top 10 Outlaw finish was an encouraging start to Veal’s US racing tour and to be the top finishing Australian would be very satisfying .

Outlaws return to where it all started

They say go west young man and this weekend the World of Outlaws returns to the birthplace of the World of Outlaws the Devils Bowl, Mesquite Texas.Devils Bowl

It seems like only yesterday but March 28 1978 was the night these wild beasts were released and dirt track racing with the winged monsters became the game to be in.The Devils Bowl still under the same management of Lanny Edwards had returned to the WoO schedule in 2014 after being off the Outlaw’s schedule for 11 years. This is a special place in the history of the Outlaws .The first race was won by Jimmy Boyd and Sammy Swindell heads Steve Kinser with 11 win to 10 at birthplace of the Outlaws. The only contracted Outlaws to record wins here are Schatz, and Saldana with 2 wins each and Pittman with one win in 2014.

Brad Sweet heads the points as the Outlaws park their haulers in the pits .Sitting just 93 points adrift in second is Stewart followed by Schatz, Pittman and Saldana.

The lap record around the ½ mile high banks dirt oval is still held today by Mark Kinser set April 24 1999. Mark Kinser was a three times winner at the Bowl. While the Outlaws will have lots of support there will be locals cheering for 2014 Track Champion Raven Culp as he makes his first World of Outlaw start.

The Devils Bowl will feature a two night show Friday April 22nd and Saturday April 23rd.

Series point’s leader Brad Sweet was asked what it means to you as a driver to return to this historical track

Brad Sweet with 5 wins in 2016

Brad Sweet with 5 wins in 2016

“For me, I am a little younger so I wasn’t around when the Outlaws started. It’s obviously a very prestigious track being the place the Outlaws started. I always heard about some of the shows that Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Doug Wolfgang and all those older guys had, so the fact that we get to go back there and keep the series going there after all these years is pretty awesome. It’s a historical racetrack so anytime you can win there and put your name on that list of winners is an honor.”

Thanks to Craftmans World of Outlaws here is a link that will take you back to 1984 and some rare footage of Steve Kinser being beaten at the devils Bowl,

Brad Sweet wins again at Dirtcar National

Brad Sweet wins again at Dirtcar National

Just ask Brad Sweet now the dust has settled at Volusia Park in Florida .Two wins out of the three Outlaw show during the Dirtcar Nationals that helped the Razor backed Tools entry take the big gator trophy home to Grass Valley California.
Joey Saldana had his new ride buzzing with the win in the dash to grab the pole spot for the start of the 30 lap a main.Saldana took the early control and lead the field for the first nine laps before Sweet took the Razor Back Tools car into the race lead.
There were early cautions first for Pittman after starting from P3 and on the first lap was introduced to the front wall forcing the #9 into the work area where the Kasey Kahnne team worked their magic and had the front axle change in 2 minutes but another possible race win lost. Shortly after Esh flipped on the front straight and after nine laps Greg Wilson’s race was over when he stopped on front straight and was done for the night.

By half race distance Sweet had build an impressive lead with the razor Back Tools entry looking unbeatable as he chewed up the laps .As the race entered the last stages Lucas Wolfe #1Z started to make ground quickly on Saldana as he struggled to hold the runner ups position .Wolfe seemed to have the measure of the #83 and passed into second .Third place on the podium was not what Saldana had in mind after leading early , the Roths Motorsports Team and Saldana would nevertheless be satisfied getting onto the podium so early in their relationship.
Sweet’s win was so dominating and his two wins and a second from the three Outlaw starts during the Dirtcar Nationals will have the team in good shape as they chase wins. It is a long season that might just be one of the competitive for some time.

Sweet victory at World of Outlaw opener.

Barberville Florida : It was sweet indeed at the World of Outlaw Opener at Volusia Speedway Park for Brad Sweet making in a making last lap pass on teammate Daryn Pittman for the opening victory in the chase for the 2016 World of Outlaw Title.
The Kasey Kahne teammates shared the front row of the grid as the field got the new season on it way.
New team combinations had mixed fortunes during the 30 lap openers with Gravel in the Big Game car and Saldana in the Roths Motorsports entry had disappointing results.
This openers was another race win that got away from Pittman when teammate Brad Sweet after chasing for the first 20 laps make the winning pass on the final lap.podium opener
Possibly the biggest surprise was the DNF of defending Outlaw Champion Donny Schatz .Schatz had rare engine problem forcing the #15 car from the race on lap 20 .Schatz had driven from 17th to second and one can only think another Outlaw win was on the way, sadly for Schatz this would be his first DNF since September 2013 and the fist in 178 races

The opening Outlaw race was good for Bryan Clauson and  his commitment is starting to show with a cracking drive into 5th after starting from position 14.

.The two so called retiring Outlaws Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell had races with totally different endings.Kinser had major contact with Austin McCarl ending with both flipping over. Both were ok. Sammy Swindell on the other hand had worked his way past all the drama to garb the final spot on the podium behind Sweet and Pittman.
The next Craftsman World of Outlaws show will be February 26th at the Cotton Bowl Speedway.

The top Outlaw Donny Schatz

Outlaws and Banks in the good  old day had one thing in common they knew how to accumulate cash in 2015 nothing much has change except today the cash come after a massive yearlong effort of amazing driving .
The World of Outlaws Sprintcar driver earning for 2015 prepared courtesy of Jeremy Elliott at Pennslive.com lists Donny Schatz as the leading money earner (Prize and points money) Shane Stewart was second on the cash haul list for 2015

While the figures appear massive, certainly in the case of Schatz we must remember the teams travel across the US and Canada to compete in over 90 shows each season. The cost of preparing and running an Outlaw team is huge , corporate support is vital to ensure teams stay on tour.Lack of funding has already seen Motter Equipment pull out of the 2016 Championship .Saldana has agreed to terms with Roth Motorsports for 2016.

The top 10 are :

.
