Badlands Motor Speedway – North Dakota.  Australian Sprintcar Champion Kerry Madsen’s decision to miss the last two Out Law events in preference to taking in the opening night at the NSL meet at Jackson Motorplex and the $100,000.00 Silver Shoot out at Badlands Motor Speedway the following night was not the big Silver Dollar earner the team had hoped for .

The opener at Jackson Motorplex for the NSL show had Kerry’s younger brother and current Knoxville Champion Ian joining him in the quest for the $10,000 winner’s purse. The inclusion of Out Law veterans Dollansky and Lasoski and Tim Kaeding would certainly make this win as difficult as any Outlaw event.

Craig Dollansky dominated the A main and won easily from the “Dude” Lasoski and Ian Madsen .Kerry Madsen followed Ian across the line .

The team now made theirBadlands way to Badland Motor Speedway where the lure of the $100,000 Silver Shoot Out would guarantee the winner 166 pieces of Silver valued at $27,000.The badlands purse was almost three times that of a normal Outlaw win.

Fast time in qualifying went to Lynton Jeffrey over Dusty Zomer.Heat winners on the night were Mark Dobmeier, Billy Balog, Terry McCarl, Brad Loyet and Paige Polyak .Kerry Madsen ran second in his heat behind Brad Loyet

In the 35 lap a main Kerry Madsen started from P6 and had moved up through the field to sit second behind Dobmeier but would find lapped traffic and get caught in a tangle with a back maker spinning and to quote Madsen “Heartbreaker, up to 2nd from 6th looking good. Would have been a chance for the win and got caught up in a lapped car spin “

Dobmeier started deep in the field and was clearly the fastest car in the pack and pulled away from pole sitter McCarl midway in the race. The four times Track Champion made certain of his win on the final restart when he quickly pulled away from McCarl and Tim Kaeding with six laps left in the book.Dommeier

An elated Domeier collected the 166 pieces of Silver ($27,000) Terry McCarl 88 pieces of Silver ($13,720) and Tim Kaeding 83 pieces of Silver ($10,916). The Silver Shootout is the highest paying race in South Dakota history and the event pulled in 47 410 Sprintcars and with the Silver on offer it is easy to see the attraction.
