Bell heads Tri-Nation Podium at POWRi Lismore
Well the sun has set on the First ever POWRi World Midget Championship rounds here in Australia. The final two nights of round 7 at Lucas Oils Speedway has finished on a high for USAC Champion Christopher Bell.
For most of these last two rounds the Kiwi Mosen has had the better of the US Champ but tonight there was no stopping the youngster from Oklahoma.
Saturday in the Northern Rivers Town of Lismore was perfect and the early afternoon is a special time at any Speedway meeting but as the light changes the Midget Speedcars take on a sparkle that lasts the night.Big crowd waiting on the action.
Mosen after dominating night one started with just the same intention setting quick time and winning his heat races that saw the 7Racing Team BSL racer again grab pole after the eight cars shoot out.
Former New Zealand Champion Michael Kendall had another night of misfortune again ending upside down in the pit corner .Kendall emerged from the race car uninjured but his crew had some work ahead if they were to ready him for the B Main and then the A main event .
Visiting American and winner of our Magic Man 34 event in Western Australia Alex Bright was having car problems and would need the promoters choice to gain a start at the rear of the A main after failing to transfer from the B Main. No such problem for Michael Kendall he blitzed the field wining easily
Would Mighty Mosen win back to back Features, would Clauson get back to the winners circle or would Christopher Bell take his first win in Australia. These and many more questions would be answered after 40 laps of the Lucas Oils Lismore Speedway’s bullring.
Teams and drivers were showing some concern about the track particularly in turn one, many including Bell and Felker took time to look closely at the surface .Track staff soon sorted the problem
It was main event time, lights, camera, and action. Mosen shared the front row with Bell then Clauson and Mathew Smith.
Driver introductions completed and the cars moved away, set for a start and racing .Mosen jumps first and races to the lead .Mosen looked good and was fast early as he worked his way ahead of the field. Unlike Friday night race that went flag to flag this 40 lapper had its stoppages.
Once the field settled the race appeared to be between Mosen, Bell, Clauson, Smee and Smith. Just when you thought that Mosen could repeat his Friday night’s effort Bell started to gather in the Kiwi and soon passed for the lead. Mosen would not be able to regain the lead, unable to match the speed of Bell’s Stanton Toyota .Right now Bell was mastering the track and Mosen needed to be watchful as Smith and Clauson were starting to make their moves.
Lapped traffic was causing Smith some concerns and afterwards on the podium was most vocal.
The checker greeted Bell 1st across the finish followed by Mosen and Smith .The CJR Motorsports team were overjoyed at the result and this win was just as important to them as it was to their driver Christopher Bell.
While Bell Mosen and Smith collected the spoils and the congratulations spare a thought for those teams that had weekends they rather forget , Brett Thomas injured on Friday night recovering at home ,Michael Kendall two big crashes , Alex Bright ,Darren Hagen and our Australian Champion Adam Clarke all suffering different car issues .
Now with the New Zealand and Australian rounds completed the POWRi World Midget Champion will conclude with rounds in the US, dates to be advised but expected to start in May.
The first POWRi World Midget Championship rounds held at Archerfield and Lismore have been a resounding success and the great news is that POWRi has signed off on a new three year deal with both Archerfield and Lismore that will see POWRi back at these tracks. Visiting Americans and New Zealanders will again join the best from Australia.
