Midgets lift racing profile across Australia

As winter moves in slowly throughout the US and Speedways nears the end of another season the smell of methanol the burning rubber and magic sounds find their way back into the minds of Speedway fans across Australia and New Zealand.

All racing division are pulling together their regular shows and their big National events. Some of the most exciting news come from the Mighty Midgets with confirmation of continuing support from Lucas Oils and Powri with their announcement of the World Midget Championship to run at events in the US ,New Zealand and Australia . The Lucas Oils Powri Speedcar Super Series will also continue in 2013/14.This series has been growing each year since inception in 2005.

Adding to the excitement will be the Speedcar Pro Series being run across the Nation for the very first time under the control of Speedway Australia and Speedcar Australia

This is massive News for the Mighty Midgets and their fans .Planning their racing programs for this coming season will certainly provide teams with lots of opportunities to race at many track against the best from Australia, New Zealand and the US.

The commitment of teams to these three major Midget Series has been encouraging and the support from the corporate sector is welcomed by race fans.

I have been chasing Speedway around the tracks for more years than I can remember and even with a general love of Speedway I have to admit to being Midget fans from way back. It should not be too surprising when you consider I have seen the best on offer from the Sydney Showground Speedway to Westmead, Tracey Speedway the Ekka and of course Rowley Park and the fabulous old Clermont track in WA. In that time many great Australian, New Zealand and US driver have kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting more.

In 2013/14 we get the chance to see many of today’ best, just pick a track and you won’t be disappointed. No wings to help the down force just the driver’s skill and determination .No better way to spend a Saturday night or any night for that matter .

The current US Powri Champion Andrew Felker will back and for the Super Series in 2013 and will have as his touring partner the next young gun that determined driver of the Kunz/Beast/Toyota Christopher Bell. Bell must be considered along with Larson, Abreu and Clauson as one of the best in the US. The cars for both Felker and Bell will be Stanton Toyota powered Brekas provide by CJR Motorsports and Clark Performance

The Speedcar Pro Series will have Steve Buckwater, Bobby East and Brad Noffsinger sharing the driving duties for Paul Jordon in his W75.

The Magic Man 34 event will welcome back the dynamic and 4 times winner of the Magic Man 34, USAC Star Davey Ray

.Traveling with Davey will be Casey Shuman also well known in the West. The Magic Man 34 will also feature the New Zealand Midget Champion Michael Picken driving the Rod Golding owned  Toyota Eagle .Michael will have his old crew chief Tim Clark to control the set up for the race .

The Powri World Midget Championship will roll out first at Western Springs for the New Zealand rounds then across the ditch to Australia for the final down Under rounds

The Speedcar Pro Series will have a special start to its program as the Magic Man 34 Event will introduce the series to Speedway fans at the Perth Motorplex. The Magic Man 34 is a fitting addition to the Speedcar Pro Series schedule with the race having very special meaning to race fans everywhere. The memory of Michael “Magic Man “Figliomeni truly one of Australia’s best ever.

Behind the all the excitement is a group of dedicated officials that put together these shows so next time there is a rain issues or a notice violation  spare a thought for those trying to manage the issues , issues that in many ways are determined by other authorities
