Speedway fans and race teams across the world have come together in a combined effort to raise awareness and funds in support the insidious crippling and life threatening illness, Amyotrophic lateral Sclerosis or Motor neurone disease
The illness first made headlines back in the 1930 when well known US baseball hero Lou Gehrig, the Iron Horse was diagnosed with ALS which later became known across the US as Lou Gehrig Disease.

.Amyotrophic lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is the umbrella term used in the US ,on the other side of the world this horrible life threatening disease is widely referred as Motor neurone disease.
The ice bucket challenge started after a baseball player with MND, Pete Frates, volunteered to have it done to him. Since then it has gone viral across social media and has become a crazy, fun loving and successful fund raising activity that bring both awareness and funds in support of finding way to improve the life expectancy and  possible cures for the horrible, horrible disease .The ALS Ice Bucket challenge is attracting many high profile personalities across a wide range of sports ,  entertainment and in the media ..

Speedway has been quick to add their support across all levels of the sport. At the recent World of Outlaws Show at Nodak Speedway both Donny Schatz and Daryn Pittman took the challenge.

Former USAC National Midget Champ Darren Hagen then accepted the Pittman challenge. Soaking wet and cold Hagen passed the challenge to Brad Sweet and Kale Kahne. You can watch the Hagen challenge here via this link

A motor neutron is a nerve cell that makes voluntary muscle movement.MND is a disease in which these cells stop working properly
Motor neutron disease (MND) affects a person’s ability to move voluntarily. MND stops people, walking, talking and eating. This disease still enable the suffer to think and feel, but in many cases it is like they are locked up in their body unable to communicate or share their feelings.

The terrible down side of this illness is that it attacks with lighting speed and half the patients diagnosed will die within 14 months

The ice bucket challenge give us all the opportunity to contribute to increasing the awareness and to raise much needed funding so that our brilliant medical brains across the world can find a cure or at the very least find ways of increasing the life expectancy of those suffering .To start simply volunteer to have a bucket of ice water tipped over your head by a friend, cold but worth it .

After taking the challenge ask two of your friends to accept the challenge within 24 hours or donate to the Motor Neurone disease charity in your area, if they want to stay dry it will cost! You will be surprised how quickly the challenge will be accepted and how much fun you will have while doing something really positive for MND.

You can also nominate a friend and agree to donate $ if he or she accepts the challenge,
