Walking down Wentworth Ave heading to the entrance of the Speedway I start to hear that  deep  throbbing sound of the big V8 Wingless Sprint cars at warm up. The closer to the track entrance I get I feel a shiver , am I just excited or has my pacemaker kicked in .

In the late afternoon with the sun low in the sky the program gets under way. Sadly a small crowd but all were eager for action  Some nights speedway promise much but tonight was ordinary .  Too many stoppages , too many yellow lights but that happens .

The late Models were fast and the sight of the cars thundering  through the corners is plain edge of the chair stuff. Ross the ” Boss ” Nicastri in the Franks Auto Parts car was full bottle before experiencing car problems that would end his night. The A main was one of the best with Dave Robertson superb followed across the line by Dean Smith after a late pass on Dean Nicastri  .Small fields but very fast  and they  have you wanting more .

Wingless Sprints,and AMCA  suffered from stoppages  that took the edge off their races . Mainly follow the leader , but that’s speedway. There was the predicable rolls ,spins and crashes but that what the fender benders do soon after charging off the start.

Jeff Neve’s night ended with a massive end over end roll through turns 3 and 4 in the A main for the wingless sprints. Jeff was transported to hospital for observation .Speedy recovery Jeff from Talking Speedway. The A main was won by Alex Orr,

The nights racing also suffered from the dreaded noise meter with a number of competitors black flagged for noise violation  The Formula 500s they sound like a squad of lumber jacks all running their chain saws at full bore together. I am not complaining I personally think they sound perfect but the ridiculous limit placed on competitors of 95DB was responsible for the entire field being pinged for noise violation and as a result their A Main was cancelled .  Mark Blyton had his Wingless heat all bagged up before he was  sent to the pits for noise violation.The competitors and the promoters are between a rock and and hard place  and have to comply. No houses in area  and freeway noise that’s constant all day and night , I ask you ?
