It’s Veal and Krikke Motorsports together in 2017
In a major announcement Krikke Motorsports principal Ryan Krikke announces that Jamie Veal will be joining the Team full time for the 2017 Australian season. Veal will replace Brooke Tatnell behind the wheel of the Western Australian based Transport Equipment Hire backed #WA2 Sprintcar Team.
This is great news for the future of World Series Sprintcars and will see * Australia’s two leading drivers continue their rivalry in the *top two Sprintcar teams in the Country.
American based Australian Legend Brooke Tatnell departs the team after 12 years in which the team shared many special and emotional victories. Tatnell and Krikke Motorsports together have won many A Mains including an Australian Title, World Series Championships and the Grand Annual Classic most importantly the Krikke Boys Shoot Out
This would have been a very difficult decision for the team but with the Monte Motorsports signing last year of James McFadden this decision gives the team more fire power to take the challenge up to the 2016/17 World Series and Classic Championship Team in the coming season.
Veal’s signing came as the Warnambool based team had decides to scale back their Australian racing operation to focus on the teams US campaigns.Veal and Krikke will contest all major shows around the Country including the World Series Sprintcar Championship, the Australian Title and the Grand Annual Classic at Warnambool.
This is exciting news for Sprintcar fans across Australia and Talking Speedway wishes Krikke Motorsports, Jamie Veal great success in season 2017.We are also hopeful that we will get see Brooke Tatnell back in Australia as he is truly a legend and a fan favorite

Shamrock Classic opens the USAC Season at Du Quoin.
The USAC National Midget season hits the starter’s button for 2017 with the 2nd annual running of the Shamrock Classic at Du Quoin in the Southern Illinois Centre.It is fitting that Bryan Clauson Promotions should lead off the season with the Shamrock Classic attracting a 50 strong entry list.
Heading the entries is the current USAC National Midget Champion Tanner Thorson and together with Christopher Bell heads a 6 strong Keith Kunz entry .After their successful Chili Bowl campaign the Clauson – Marshall Racing brings the defending Shamrock Classic Champion Shane Golobic#17W, Tyler Courtney #7BC and Justin Grant #39BC to Du Quoin to start their assault on the 2017 National Midget Championship.
On Saturday March 18th the Du Quoin Centre indoor dirt track will need to handle the best in USAC Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown drivers as they fight for first Midget season points and the $US3900.00 winner’s purse.
Indoor racing exciting and likely to cause unexpected upsets so be prepare for an unlikely winner. It all begins on Saturday before heading to Kokomo Grand Prix in April.

Australian Sprintcar Champion Kerry Madsen returns to the heat of the World of Outlaw action this weekend at Las Vegas Speedway Dirt Track after missing the Texas round at Lone Star Speedway .With a win in the Go Muddy/Big Game car already in his pocket Madsen should be primed for another big result.
With season only weeks old and with a limited World of Outlaw events on his schedule the Australian Champion will be out to remind the regulars his appetite for Outlaws wins is still as strong as ever.
Madsen will be joined in Las Vegas by Brother Ian and the KCP Team together with the recently arrived James McFadden in the Factory Kahne/Sean Dyson #51.All three Australians have had success down under in 2016/17 beating many of the tough Americans along the way.
An all Australian podium at Las Vegas is not out of the question.
McFadden takes Krikke Boys Shoot Out then US Bound
The 2016/17 OZ season ended on a high for James McFadden after taking the 20th Krikke Boys Shoot Out at Bunbury Speedway. The Krikke Shoot Out was an awesome prize for McFadden and his Milwaukee Tools backed Monte Motorsports team. and topped off a great season .
The switch of race Teams early in 2016 has been an outstanding success with numerous Feature wins which included the World Series Sprintcar Championship for the 3rd time and his massive win in the Grand Annual Classic at Warnambool’s Sungold Stadium.
The Krikke Shoot Out trophy stays in Western Australian after two night of exhilarating racing. McFadden had the pole starting position with arch rival Jamie Veal sharing the front row. Night two had its fair share of crashes but that’s speedway.
The Krikke Team had hoped that their Shane Krikke tribute car with Brooke Tattnell at the wheel might have taken the win but no one would have been too disappointed with the McFadden win .Tatnell ran a strong second after fuel problems robbed Steven Lines of an assured runner up position. Jamie Maiolo completed the Kirkke podium. Jamie Veal’s year of bad luck continued with ignition problems forcing his DNF.
McFadden’s celebration of the Krikke Shoot out Trophy was short lived as he had to prepare to head across the Pacific to race this weekend with the World of Outlaws at the Dirt Track Las Vegas. McFadden will wheel the factory Kahne’s #51 with the support of Sean Dyson and Phil Durst.The Outlaw show will be run Thursday and Friday. McFadden will run the West Coast World of Outlaw schedules in the #51
Veal fires night one of the krikke Boys Shoot Out
This special event that remembers the Krikke Boys had extra meaning this year as it was also a tribute to the passing of Shane Krikke.
Held at the Quit Bunbury Speedway over two nights with a cool $20,000 up for grabs. Jamie Veal heads into night two after claiming the win on the opening night from James McFadden and Brooke Tatnell.
The Bunbury track has had its share of critics over recent times but last night the track was awesome. Nominations for this year’s event were down on last year’s 33 starters but the 22 teams on hand were prepared for the contest and each looking for the chance to have their names in the record for this very special race.
Controversy is never far from Speedway and unfortunately track conditions will always be a an easy target for criticism .The Krikke Shoot Out is a wonderful race and the controversy over the Track managements refusal to accept Kent Robinson’s WX4 nomination for the meeting a unnecessary distraction .The decision drew plenty of comment on social media with opinion firmly on the side of Kent Robinson. It is alleged that Robinson had made unacceptable and detrimental remarks about the sport and the promoters deemed that to be unacceptable and refused his nomination for the Shoot Out.
The question of free speech is high on the political agenda in Australia and it is sad that it has found it’s way into the Sport of Speedway. Surely there was a better way for both parties to have handled the matter.The only question to answer is who will take the Krikke Boys Shoot Out for 2017.

Outlaws on the move Florida to Texas.
With the first three events of the 2017 calendar already in the books the World of Outlaw Sprintcar teams haul their way up from Florida to the bad lands of Texas for two shows .The first at the Lone Star Speedway Kilgore and then onto the Gator Motorplex at Willis.
The defending Outlaw Champion Donny Schatz has two wins from the three starts and sits on top of the points from Chad Kemenah and Jason Johnson, Kerry Madsen and Brad Sweet.
Night one in Texas will be the Lone star Speedway a high banked 1/3 mile Clay oval and the following night at the Bullring at the Gator Motorplex. The Gator Motorplex is a ¼ Mile high banked with about the widest straight-a-ways the Outlaws encounter. The straight has been widened from 35 feet to 50 feet and the corners from 60 to 70 feet so expect plenty of aggressive passes. Jason Johnson goes into the Gator show having won there at his last two starts. Most of the contracted Outlaws will be making their first appearance at the bullring.
The 2017 season promises to be one of the most competitive in years and although Schatz has started more strongly than previous years the changed Team line ups are sure to spark some intense competition .New cars and Teams for Kerry Madsen and Joey Saldana has had some mixed results.Kerry Madsen already has put the Go Muddy unit in victory lane while Saldana has had a scare or two down in Florida.

Kerry Madsen’s 2017 US Campaign kicks off this week end down Florida way at Bubba Raceway Park where he will take command of the Big Game Motorsports/Go Muddy #2 and takes up the challenge in the Arctic Cat All Stars Circuit of Champions.
New Team, New Livery and colors Madsen is perfectly placed to continue his stunning Bubba Raceway form .Madsen has won his last four start at the Florida track in 2015.Comming off a fabulous summer racing down under with back to back wins against many of the best includes Americans in the recent National Open plus the defense of his Australian Sprintcar Title at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway.
During an interview with Shawn Miller’s Inside promotions Madsen had this to say: “For me it’s about getting out there and getting to know each other and trying to get that line of communication”, he said.”We have a lot to do in a short amount of time. The real part of the season is coming up pretty quick. Just try to get that ground base or a level of where we can get a good baseline for (crew chief) Guy Forbrook and I is the main thing”
Madsen continued “I’ve always come in straight off the Australian season so that helps” he said.”You’ve been racing for a bit so you’re up to speed. Turns one and two are sweeping and turns three and four are like the top of an egg. I guess my success has been in being able to adapt to the unique challenges of the track “

The Australian Speedcar Championship trophy goes overseas for the second successive year following Rico Abreu’s dominance this weekend at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway.
Rarely headed in races on this tour Abreu went into the final night with high points after the heats on Friday night. Beaten to the checker only once on the final night and that was in the heats by Queensland’s Anthony Chaffey. The seasoned 25 year old USAC professional started the Championship Feature from that magic position P1 with Kiwi Hayden Williams out of P2 and defending Champion Michael Pickens in P3.
It was no surprise that Abreu raced into the early lead with Williams running a steady pace to keep the Californian in check. By lap 12 Abreu was still maintaining a Championship winning lead but the defending Champion Pickens still had the bit between his teeth and closed then passed Williams for second on lap 12 .Pickens dream of a second A1 Plate was gone four laps later when he experienced engines problems and returned to the infield.
Abreu appeared untroubled in the lead but it was Brady Bacon who was starting to bring the crowd alive as he forced his way through the field and by lap 20 was in second and looking the only danger to Abreu.Bacon started to close the gap to Abreu but the two times Chili Bowl Champion had this race well under control , as brilliant as Bacon was Abreu and his Spike /Toyota had the challenge covered.
Passing the checker it was Rico Abreu the new Australian Speedcar Champion from the fast finishing Brady Bacon and Nathan Smee the first of the Australians across the stripe. Of the four New Zealanders in the field only Chris Gwilliams finished the race, Pickens, Williams and Mosen all were DNF..Alex Bright,finished in 4th ZachDaum in 8th and Andrew Felker in 9th..
Abreu and Keith Kunz set such a high standard during this tour and the Australian Championship is just reward .The Bullet by Spike /Toyota they prepared for this tour down under was “Gem”. Speedway fans should also applaud Todd Wanless and his Raw Metals Corp for their support of Keith Kunz and his Team.
Well done Rico, as Australian Champion you will be wonderful ambassador for Australian Speedcars and Speedway.

Want the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up this week end then better get along to Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway this week end for the Speedcar Championship of Australia. Get yourself down to the fence line where you will feel the sounds as the midgets get into the track and challenge the cushion. If you get clay in your hair and the smell of racing fuel in your lungs you will have had a get night no matter who wins.
For seventy five years this prestige Championship has attracted not only the best Midget Speedcar drivers in Australia but the very bravest and talented from New Zealand and the USA.South Australia and Tasmania are the only States not represented but other Teams have been arriving after long hauls up the highways and across Oceans.
The defending Champion is seven times New Zealand Champion Michael Pickens. Fellow Kiwis Brad Mosen, Hayden Williams and Chris Gwilliam make up the Kiwi challenge.The favorite for the Championship must be Two times Chili Bowl Champion and 2014 USAC Midget Champion Rico Abreu base on current Australian form. Abreu will be joined by Brady Bacon, Zach Daum, Andrew Felker and Alex Bright, all have major US Title to their names and plenty of experience on Australian track.
The Australian’s will be determined not to let another Title head overseas and they have plenty of fire power for the Kiwis and Yanks to get over first. Nathan Smee and Adam Clarke both former Champions desperately want another Title and Dayne Kingshott now with McAllen Motorsports will be out to improve on his strong second behind Abreu at the recent Lismore International Midget Show.
While it is hard to go past Abreu and Bacon I would not be surprised if Dayne Kingshott brings another Title home to Western Australia for the McAllan Stable.The two nights of racing starts with the preliminary night Friday February 3rd and the Championship night Saturday February 4th.

It was Boom, Boom for the Madsen Bros at Valvoline Raceway
It was a case of double boom in the 55th running of the Australian Sprintcar Championship at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway when Kerry Madsen successfully defended his Australian Championship and younger brother Ian raced his Watson’s Transport backed car into second ahead of Robbie Farr and Brooke Tatnell. Young Jordyn Brazier completed the top 5 and would go home well satisfied with his Championship performance.
Madsen and McFadden were the two top points scorers and had the honor of starting on the from row of the 24 car field for the 40 Lap Championship decided. In the build up to the final race there was lots of activity on the twitter feeds from the Madsen fans boldly predicting a win for Kerry. Clearly they were on the money.
By lap seven the defending Champion was already leading from younger brother Ian with McFadden sitting in third. By lap 22 McFadden’s chances had slowly diminished courtesy of a deflating left front tire that had been damaged during his earlier battle for the race lead and would force his retirement from the race.
In front a huge crowd the Madsen brothers will go down in the Sprintcar history as the first brothers to run the quinella at the Australian Sprintcar Championship..Sadly as was the case last year the A1 might not be seen on Australian Speedways until Kerry Madsen returns home late 2017.With back to wins in the National Open and now the Aussie Title his confidence will be high as he plans for his return to the US and his debut in the Big Game Go Muddy back Team. Kerry will have his first race in the seat of the new Team car in Florida this February.
