Pittman tells Schatz, not done yet!
Daryn Pittman sent Championship leader Donny Schatz the strongest possible message that his Championship defense is not done yet. The KK driver posted his 12th win on the STP tour at River City and in the process clawed back some valuable points from the second finishing Schatz.
The River City show started like so many other shows this year with the Yellow Motter #71 race car of Joey Saldana posting quick time for the 21st time this year .Heat races and the pill draws this year have not always been kind to the Brownsburg bullet.
Taking the pole for the 40 Lap show was only the beginning for Pittman and although Schatz would start out of position 9 recent storming drives by the Fargo North Dakota ace would have been foremost in the mind of the Great Clips Kasey Kahne number 9 driver.
With 11 tours wins in 2014 Pittman would be looking to take the best possible advantage over Schatz that he could. Jumping into an immediate lead over Logan Schuchart Pittman‘s early advantage was lost when Australian Kerry Madsen turned his American Racing Custom Wheels #29 into the fence. Madsen was ok and they took the car to work area after which it returned to race .After seeing off the challenge of Schuchart Pittman had to defend his lead from Kraig Kinser .Cautions seemed to be on the race agenda , another four times the yellow would be displayed with the last just 3 laps out from the finish.
Pittman continued to lead at every restart but Schatz slowly made ground ending up in second at the time of the last yellow.Three laps to run, Schatz coming fast, not the ideal way to run to the finish. As the pair raced to the finish plenty in the crowd would have been expecting the number 15 to grab the lead but Pittman would not be denied his 12th victory and those very important championship points.
Pittman’s win might just be the break in the momentum that he needs to stops the amazing run of recent wins by the Tony Stewart, STP/Armour All backed man from Fargo North Dakota
After his 21st quick time Joey Saldana finished in 7th place, a return to victory lane must be close for this entertaining team and driver .
