SSS Director Ken Jenkins is pleased to announce the official schedule for the 2016-2017 Speedcar Super Series covering 5 tracks throughout Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia!

“Our goal was to release the calendar as soon as possible so teams could plan and budget over the off-season,” Ken said earlier from his home “We need to keep building on the SSS and finalising the dates this early is beneficial to everyone involved”.

The opening round of the twelfth consecutive season will be held at Queensland’s Archerfield Speedway, followed by Lismore Speedway (NSW), Valvoline Raceway (NSW), Murray Bridge Speedway (SA) and Hi-Tech Oils Speedway (QLD), before returning to Valvoline Raceway (NSW) for the grand finale!

10 December 2016 – Valvoline Raceway
18 February 2017 – Murray Bridge Speedway

A family man, a highly regarded member of the South Australian Speedcar Association and a racer who was tragically lost in a 2010 road accident. The Tim Crouch Memorial will be a highlight of this seasons SSS”.

SPEEDCARS ADDED TO MAY 7 VALVOLINE RACEWAY EVENT

SPEEDCARS ADDED TO MAY 7 VALVOLINE RACEWAY EVENT

Midgets Valvoline
Official release: Valvoline Raceway
April 26, 2015

Speedcars have been added to the Valvoline Raceway season finale on Saturday, May 7.

The May 7 event was originally slated as a rain date for the Carline Automotive 50-Lapper however in the light of last Saturday’s unfortunate rain-out of the Speedcar Super Series finale this brings about a unique situation.

“We have been keeping the May 7 date up our sleeve as a rain-out for the 50,” says VR MD Steven Green, “and that may still actually be the case if we need it for that race if the weather isn’t favorable this weekend. However in the meantime we have slated the Speedcar Super Series finale for May 7. If rain were to cancel the 50-lapper this Saturday we’d still re-schedule it on May 7. Hopefully we won’t need to do that and we can run the 50-lapper and the SSS final consecutively on April 30 and May 7. Either way, Speedcars are locked in, in some form, for May 7.”

SSS Principal Ken Jenkins is fully supportive.

“We’re (SSS) grateful for the chance to re-run our final at Parramatta on May 7 but we’re also aware that it’s first and foremost the rainout date for the 50-lap race. We’re hopeful that Parramatta can run both this weekend and next and that way we all get our races in. There’s nothing you can do about the weather. Finger crossed,” says Jenkins.

Remaining schedule for Valvoline Raceway is:

Saturday, April 30
Carline Automotive Speedcar 50-lapper / Late Models / Lightning Sprints / Caravan Derby

Saturday, May 7
Time Target Late Model Easternapolis / Speedcars / Wingless Sprints / Street Stocks

Whittaker anything but rusty wins Qld Midget Title

Whittaker anything but rusty wins Qld Midget Title

Adam Clarke , Rusty Whittaker,Matt Greenwood

Last Saturday night Toowoomba Speedbowl was the venue for the 71st running of the Queensland Midget Speedcar Championship. What better time and place to record your first Feature race wins and the bonus was the Queensland Championship and the right to wear the Qld 1 on the tank of the Whittaker Speedcar’s tank
Even more special for young Whittaker as well joining the ranks of many of the past legends and Champions of Australian Speedway .Rusty now joins his dad Sid a winner in 2012 as only the second father and son to have claimed the coveted Title. The only other father and son to win the Championship were Ron and Todd Wanless
Standing in young Whittaker’s way was 2015 Australian Champion Adam Clarke, 5 times New Zealand and defending Champion expat Kiwi Michael Kendall and current POWRi Speedcar Super Series Champ Brett Thomas. Michael Kendall started his night in a positive frame of mind and posted quick time in qualifying over Clarke. The night started badly for the four times Australian Champion with minus points due to missing the drivers meeting. Despite his heat wins Clarke would start the Championship Feature from deep in the pack. Clarke most recent win was on the high banks of the Warnambool Speedway so the Aussie Champ would have fancied his chances.
After the heats it was young Whittaker who had the front row with  Brett Thomas and fellow youngster Matt Greenwood in row two.
30 laps and at the end the Queensland Title .Thomas was first to make the statement and raced into lead with both Whittaker and Greenwood chasing the POWRi Champion. The pair of young bucks attacked Thomas with Whittaker riding the outside and Greenwood punching in on the bottom .The Toowoomba crowd was witnessed to some super fast and close racing as the three looked for the point. The pair harassed Thomas with Whittaker finally grabbing the lead off Thomas and immediately started to build a lead over the chasing pack.
Not long after Greenwood made his move and passed Thomas, he had given Whittaker a handy lead and now started the chase.
Whittaker clear in the lead and Greenwood trying to bridge the gap without much success. Meanwhile Adam Clarke had started his march forward.
New Zealander Kendall was now in third position and Brendan Palmer fourth.
15 laps down and the Title in sight Whittaker continued to lead and by now had extended it to a third of lap over Greenwood and Kendall. By this stage Clarke had moved to sixth and by lap 20 had finally pass Thomas after a duel that had crowd captivated

The Title chase stopped on lap 24 for the first yellow when Scott Doyle slowed forcing a restart. 24 down 6 to race and the Title was so close but still far away. Whittaker restarted with the same purpose and went straight back to work rebuilding his lead over Greenwood and Kendall who by now had to deal the fast arriving Clarke.
Three laps later and Chaffey losses a tire and another caution and you can feel the frustration in the the Whittaker pit.
Another restart and once again Whittaker appeared composed as he bounced back to the point with both Greenwood and Clarke looking for a late challenge. Yet another yellow for Thomas in turn 4 that saw the run to the finish under a green white chequered.
Whittaker ran a mistake free race and while some may have been surprised I have been following Rusty performances over the couple of years and recent runs suggested to me a win was not too far away.

The only summer storm at Powri Lismore was the Hunter Valley Hurricane

The only summer storm that threatened the Lismore Speedway and round three of the POWEi Speedcar Super Series was the Hunter valley Hurricane aka Adam Clarke.
A reduced field of 20 competitors arrived at the Lucas Ols Lismore Speedway as a result of the frightening storm experienced last week in Brisbane.

Storms over Lismore

Storms over Lismore

Clarke and the Jack Berry Racing  Polar Ice Team fired the warning shots early in the night by setting the quick time for the night over Nathan Smee and Michael Stewart.
Smee and Clarke headed the points tally going into the Feature, Smee 103 Pts to Clarke 101

.
The defending POWRi SSS Queenslander Brett Thomas started his night in the worst possible way with a flip during the hot lap session. The Illuminated Team repaired the race car but Thomas could not get back the lost momentum and did not figure in the final placings.Lismore has not been kind to Thomas during last January’s POWRi World Midget show Thomas suffer a terrible crash just past the pit entrance .

The two best Speedcar drivers is the country Smee and Clarke shared the front row as they rolled to the start. Smee on the pole, Clarke on the outside.
Right from the start this was looking like a 30 lap match race and the first part of the race certainly did not disappoint. Clarke was strong right across the groves and was holding back Smee’s attack. As the race developed Smee would start to fall off the pace depriving the crowd of a terrific finish, a slowly deflating right rear tire was the culprit. Smee held on long enough to finish 5th and still grab dome valuable POWRi point s.
With Smee his main challenger out of contention Clarke took the JBR Polar Ice #1 across the line a comfortable winner from Michael Stewart and young Queenslander Rusty Whittaker.
