Madsen strikes early for Krikke Motorsports in Perth 

The much anticipated first up outing for Kirkke Motorsports and Kerry Madsen did not let their enormous fan base down.

Madsen dominated, as only the Mad Man can and secured the Western Australian Sprint Car Championship for himself and Krikke Motorsports # W2  last night at the Perth Motorplex in Western Australia .

Madsen contracted with Krikke Motorsports for the full World Series Sprintcar Series  across the Country  ensures  fans are in for a real treat.With many of the best from Australia and with imports from the USA sparks are sure to fly.

Despite the small field  by our Sprint car standards, Madsen did exactly what his Team Owners were hoping for., strike first and fast. The Team has settled in quickly and must be confident of a successful season ahead.

Donny Schatz ices the cake and Ian Madsen break through win at World Finals

 

 

So, the World of Outlaws season for 2018 has finished very muck like it started way back in February at the Dirt Car Nationals where the recently crowned 10 times Champion Donny Schatz won his first Dirt Car Nationals at Volusia down Florida.

Donny Schatz won 4 of his five starts down in Florida in February and went on to again dominate the 2018 Championship with 22 wins compared with the runner up Brad Sweet with 9 wins.

The World Finals at the Charlotte Dirt Tack was a fitting end to what had been a superb season finishing with Australian Ian Madsen being named rookie of year and what better way for Ian Madsen to celebrate than to record his first ever WoO A Main win on night 1.

After finishing in 10th in the first A Main of the World finals Donny Schatz sent a strong message to rivals in 2019 with a powerful win from P10 to win the Championship Final at the World Finals.

We are pleased to announce the ‘Teams Racing’ is scheduled to run as part of the United Truck Parts International Midget Series in a slightly different format.
Unlike previous years, the plan is to run a single sprint race each night of the first five meetings. The drivers will accumulate team points from each of the meetings, and we will see the final race unfold at the King of the Springs – Bryan Clauson 39 Lapper event on Thursday 3rd January 2019.
The Team selection process is that the local lads will show the selectors what they are capable of in the first 4 meetings of the season, ready for Boxing Day. Team NZ will be announced after racing on the 8th Dec. This team of three drivers will race against the other two teams at all five meetings.
Team USA will be represented by Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell and Tyler Courtney. Team Australia has Matt Smith, Kaidon Brown and Scott Farmer.
“All indications are that we will witness some of the best open wheel midget racing we have seen here at Western Springs”, said Greg Mosen – Promoter, “the team line ups are next level” he said.

Lance Dewease and Don Kreitz overpower Outlaws at National Open

Last weekend one of the seasons most important races on the US Sprintcar calendar took place  at Williams Grove Speedway. The National Open is a traditional clash between the Pennsylvania Posse and the World of Outlaws. The race with a big purse is a magnet for many Teams outside of the Outlaws and Posse groups

The National Open this year was an opportunity for race fans, Teams and Speedway officials to honor the recent death of Outlaw Star Jason Johnson and the very recent death of loved Posse member Greg Hodnett.

The emotional week end saw an outpouring of respect for the two Champions of the Sport with many race Teams and fans showing their support and respect in many ways.

Logo and messages on Race Cars and fans taking up the opportunity to buy merchandise to remember their lost hero.

Bragging right this week end are sought by the Posse and the Outlaws. The Outlaws are recognized across the Speedway World as the premier Sprintcar group, but the Posse fans and officials dispute this at every opportunity, this race week end is the perfect place to settle the argument where it matters on dirt at Williams Grove the home of the National Open,

Night one of the National Open went to the amazing teenager 16-year-old Giovanni Scelzi aboard the Indy Race Parts #71. The youngster became the youngest ever winner of a World of Outlaws A Main and on his way passed Outlaw star David Gravel to collect $10K for the win. Gio also clocked the fastest time during qualifying.

At this point of the meeting it was Posse Nil, World of Outlaws Nil and the invader from Indiana 1

Night two and the Teams regroup totally focused on preparing their race car for the big money on offer for the race win and the National Open Title, not the mention the bragging rights for the next year.

The pressure was intense with $56K up for grabs for the winners.

Night two started for the youngster in the Indy Parts #71 just like it ended the previous night with Giovanni Scelzi again posting the fastest time during qualifying. A strong second place in the dash gave Giovanni a start from P3 for the Main event and every chance to collect the $56K.

The competition on night two was going to be much harder with improved qualifying by many of the top Outlaws as well as the driver with the most wins at Williams Grove Lance Dewease in the Don Kreitz #69K.

Brock Zearfoss was on pole with lance Dewease on his outside. Scelzi in row three. Zearfoss won the start and lead the race for 23 laps before Dewease made a sensational pass between Zearfoss and lapped car. Dewease had dogged Zearfoss for most of the 23 laps and always looked in control. It’s a pity young Scelzi got lost in traffic and struggle and could not reproduce the sizzling pace and control of night one.

As the race continued Dewease strengthen his position and put space between his 69K and chasing Outlaw Pittman.

With the checker out Dewease easily cross for his fourth National Open win ahead of Pittman and Monteith who had been on the pace early challenging both Zearfoss and Dewease for the early lead.

Dewease and Kreitz Jr a team without the Glitz, glamour, fancy Transporter but with an imposing record.

Lance dedicated his win to his friend the late Greg Hodnett.

AS the lights fade at Williams Grove the Posse take the shine off the Outlaws, but they are very much aware of the talent that awaits them the next time they come up against Giovanni Sceliz and the Indy Race Parts #71.

Classic Boil Over Corey McCullagh Wins

Corey McCullagh the young low budget racer from Warnambool arrived on the big stage last night with a Classic drive from position 9 to claim the 46th running of the Grand Annual Classic at Warnambool’s Premier Speedway

The biggest Sprint car event outside of the Knoxville Nationals draws an International field from the US and every State of Australia .  A Classic race win sought after by every racer who has ever strapped him or herself into a Sprintcar.

World of Outlaw winners, Current and past National Champions and former Classic winners would have been the punters favorites but the money men had not counted on the commitment, determination and the drive to fulfill a lifetime dream of the young Warnambool racer.

Rolling to the starting line in 9th position with many seasoned professional ahead McCullough certainly had the job ahead .Passing many of our best included past Classic winner McFadden and getting the better of both pole sitters Carson Macedo and Brooke Tatnell.

To get to the top step of the podium McCullock had to best 110 drivers over three days to collect the biggest prize and create the biggest upset in Australian Speedway history before collecting the $30,000 and for Bread delivery driver McCullagh that’s real dough!

Congratulation to Corey McCullagh and his team ,truly a great achievement !

Next stop for the 2018 SWC Conveyancing Grand Anual Classic Champion will now head back across the border to compete for the Australian Sprintcar Championship at Borderline Speedway Mount Gambier .in South Australia.

Steven Lines King of Borderline Speedway

Steven Lines got over the top of a cracker field stacked with many of the US’s best to win the Kings Challenge at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway.

Winning against such a top class field last night should position Lines well for his next Borderline outing the Australian Sprint Car Champion over the weekend of January 25-27.

Lines has settled into his new Team and to take a Major Title so early in the relationship must be very satisfying .

After an unlucky Presidents Cup race in Avalon James McFadden was back inform bringing the W17 of Monte Motorsports home in second ahead of Carson Macedo the first of the Americans home .

It’s wonderful to welcome the yanks to our tracks but so much better when our boys come home with the trophy.

MADSEN LIVID WHILE MCFADDEN TRIUMPHS AT MURRAY BRIDGE

A controversial incident between reigning Australian Sprintcar Champion Kerry Madsen and Victorian hotshot Tim Van Ginneken has brought a premature end to the A Main at the second round of QSS World Series Sprintcars at Murray Bridge, South Australia.

James McFadden claimed a convincing win over Louisianan Jason Johnson and Matt Egel after the race was declared with just 3 laps remaining, with the clash between Van Ginneken and Madsen leaving the Australia #1 car tangled in the catch fence in turn one.

Madsen had driven from 15th after coming from the B Main all the way to battle for 5th with Van Ginneken who had gradually slipped back after leading the first 12 laps from his front row start alongside McFadden.

At lap 32 however, Madsen drove around the V36 and tucked into turn one to close the door, however Van Ginneken fought to keep the position, making heavy contact and catapulting the A1 high into the catch fence and tangled in the mesh.

Madsen was quick to loosen his belts despite the car hanging off the fence, and wasted no time in exploding his frustrations on Van Ginneken as soon as was released from the wreckage.

“That’s the stupidest move I’ve ever seen at a speedway,” Madsen said, restraining himself from boiling over on the microphone, however TVG seemed unperturbed by his remonstrations.

“It’s not like Kerry’s never done that to anybody is it?” he responded, “so I’m certainly not going to lose any sleep over it.”

The controversy somewhat stole the limelight from a phenomenal race, with a track that became racey just at the right time of the night after being very heavy from an unexpected shower at the start of the evening.

“I wasn’t sure were going to get a racetrack like that after what it was like at the start, but hats off to the track crew because that was great fun,” a jubilant McFadden said after starting the night with Revolution Racegear Quicktime after a last-minute gear change by the crew on the infield to achieve some higher RPM.

Johnson was equally happy with his runner up result, taking him to the KRE Speedweek and WSS Championship points chase lead on 580 points, just four ahead of McFadden and Matt Egel on 557 points in third.

Jamie Veal was unable to take the start in the Krikke Motorsport TEH #2 with electrical issues taking the former champion to the infield before a lap had been turned.

The series heads to Mount Gambier’s Borderline speedway tonight for round three before a day off prior to round four at Avalon on December 30.

MADSEN WINS A THRILLER AT THE BRIDGE

Reigning Australian Sprintcar Champion Kerry Madsen has claimed a $10,000 purse in a thriller at Murray Machining and Sheds Speedway, Murray Bridge for the opening round of QSS World Series Sprintcars for 2017-18.

Madsen qualified 8th quick in his flight in the 45-car field, while South Australian stalwart Jamie Cobby claimed Revolution Racegear Quicktime overall but was let down by a collection of incidents in heat races relegating him to a fourth row start in the Main.

Louisiana’s Jason Johnson started from pole sharing the front row with Matt Egel, with impressive local Ryan Jones and Warrnambool young gun Jye O’Keeffe on the second row.

However, O’Keeffe ended his campaign in the first turn, catching the wall and rolling over, before Aidan Hall made a similar mistake in the same spot six laps later with 34 laps remaining.

Jones was relentless in his pursuit of Johnson, while Madsen was needling away from his third row start, dicing with Jamie Veal and Luke Dillon before finding some grip low on the exit of turn four and shooting to the front.

James McFadden was aggressively charging forward from his 11th starting spot, finally boiling over at the half way mark when he and Veal came together in turn one, with both spinning, but only McFadden able to keep his engine alive.

Veal unceremoniously restarted from the rear of field, and as the track began to lightly take rubber, he fell into the clutches of Madsen who ironically met him in lapped traffic with only a handful of laps remaining.

In the meantime, Ryan Jones had outsmarted Jason Johnson to take over second while Johnson held on to third, Matt Egel fourth and James McFadden rounding the top five.

“That was a great racetrack,” Madsen said in Victory Lane, “and it was just a case of trying to find what moisture was out there, and we just struck it at the right times.”

Jones echoed thoughts, but was torn between being disappointed with second and jubilant of a podium finish.

“Without being cocky, we came in confident, so to not quite get there is disappointing, but when you consider the calibre of this field, we’ll take second!”

Johnson labelled the race track as “a dream come true,” claiming that “riding the cushion in three and four was great fun, but we just didn’t have the speed to keep up with those boys, but this a great way to start the week.”

Cory Eliason claimed the Hoosier Hard Charger award, driving from 16th to 9th in the USA00 Devil Race Karts entry, while fellow Americans, Carson Macedo crashed out of the B Main and Dom Scelzi retired earlier in the night with a broken rear end that led to further issues.

The 31st World Series continues tonight at the same venue for night two of KRE Speedweek with another $10k on offer for the winner.

Ian Madsen Going Full-Time Outlaw Racing in 2018

CONCORD, NC – November 11, 2017 – It is with great excitement that the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series announces that Australian Ian Madsen will join the Series full-time in 2018. Madsen, the 2017 Knoxville Raceway Track Champion, scored his second career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory during the running of the 39th Annual AGCO Jackson Nationals at the Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota in June of this year.

“We’ve been gearing up to go full-time Outlaw racing the past few years,” the 32-year old Australian said. It’s true. In 2017, the KCP Racing No.18 raced 90 times with Madsen able to secure 11 victories throughout the season. “We’ve been committed to Knoxville on Saturday’s the past few years, but outside of that we’ve run everywhere. Running with the Outlaws will give us more structure,” Madsen added.

Madsen was a familiar face with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series in 2017, scoring 21 top-ten finishes. Most recently, Madsen competed with The Greatest Show on Dirt at the Textron Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway and came home with a second-place finish on Night 2.

Madsen is accomplished in his native land Down Under as well, scoring a preliminary night win at the Grand Annual Sprint Car Classic this season and following that up with a second-place finish in the Australian Title Finale, an event that saw over 100 cars compete.

In 16 Features at Knoxville Raceway this season, Madsen was in the top-ten all 16 times and added 12 top-five finishes, nine podiums and five wins en route to the track championship. On sprint car’s biggest stage, the 5-Hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals, Madsen was strong all weekend, finishing inside in the top-ten of the 50-lap finale.

Madsen, crew chief Kyle Ripper and the KCP team have worked seamlessly together, becoming one of the most potent teams in the country. But Madsen knows next year will be different, “We don’t have any result orientated goals. We will do the best we can and perform to the best of our ability.”
