September was set to sizzle with 12 events and with Schatz on the rampage again many race fans could see Pittman’s seasonal lead in the Championship quickly disappearing,

Schatz started off September with win number nineteen at Grays Harbor Speedway and with Pittman’s lead down to just 20 points.

The pressure on teams and drivers to maximize race points at every race never eases but it is the competitive nature of the series the different track conditions that can very quickly become and equalizer in the fields that contain many of the local track campaigners

5 different drivers take race wins to September 14. Schatz two wins ,Keading two and one each to Saldana and Jason Myers .

Despite not registering a win since July23 at Rolling Wheels Speedway Pittman has worked tirelessly as he continued to gather points with regular top scoring positions .At at one point when his lead was slipping away the Kasey Kahne /Great Clips driver dug deep to increased his small advantage over Schatz and by September 14 the lead was up to 70 points

Closing out the September sizzle was the first ever win in the World of Outlaws for Aussie Ian Madsen. The Deer Creek win for Madsen was a just reward after his strong second place in the Knoxville Track championship.

The 2013 STP Championship has but nine races to run before crowning the 2013 Champion. Pittman and Schatz will need to pick up every point on offer .Schatz has to go all out for the wins while Pittman can afford to be a little more cautious in his race approach.

While not wishing to understate the performance of Pittman the allocation of points looks at first glance to be a little out of step with the results. Schatz has had a record 20 wins for the season compared with the 8 wins for Pittman

Compare the points:

Pos. Driver Total Diff Wins Top 5’s Top 10’s QT
1 Daryn Pittman 9297 0 8 43 55 13
2 Donny Schatz 9227 -70 20 41 55 3

Certainly the points awarded for the win appear to be undervalued and apart from the difference in wins the other main difference between the two is the fast times during qualifying where Pittman is  ahead 13 to 3 .

The win is worth 150 points with 140 awarded for second ,  thereafter the difference is two points running right down to position 24 which earns 102 points… The 70 points advantage currently held by Pittman will be a mountain for Schatz to climb

The next event for the Outlaws is the Four Crowns Nationals at Eldora followed the following night with the Commonwealth Clash at Lernerville Speedway.
