Van Ginneken wins-Farrell banned

tim van ginnekeenThe Wormall Civic Western Australian Sprintcar Championship decided last weekend at the Perth Motorplex was a race that had great excitement, disappointments and poor sportsmanship.

The most important headline was the impressive performance of Victorian Tim Van Ginneken in the Steve Crabbed owned SJ Cushings W56.

The flight from Victoria to drive the Cushing car and hit the Perth track for the first time was rewarded when the Victorian took out the 54th running of the Western Australian Sprintcar Title .With only one 410 feature win to his credit the Victorian race from his P3 starting position to the title. The 30 lap Title race was brought forward as bad weather threatened to close out the night early.

Carl Dowling set fast time during qualifying from Tim Van Ginneken and Shaun Bradford.

Heat wins on the night went the way of Dowling,Gessner and Bradford .

Despite being nominated by his Western Australian based Team Keneric Racing Kerry Madsen did not make the starting lineup. Enquiries to Perth Motorplex and to Kerry Madsen’s people went unanswered .After the various press releases fans were entitled to be disappointed .Talking Speedway did receive the following response from SEG ( Sprintcar Entrants Group ) “Kerry’s team in America is actually based here in Perth. They have truck and cars here – as they have truck and cars in America – I think the team was keeping its options open as to where they would race that weekend and nominated for events “

With the heavy World of Outlaw schedule it is hard to understand why they would have nominated the AU1 for the race, but why?

Sprintcar racing is exciting and dangerous so to maintain the safety of all drivers standards are set and driver are expected to follow .The reaction on Saturday night by Ryan Farrell was just so bad, his attitude to his fellow competitors and on Saturday in particular to Cameron Gessner was disgraceful .

After an incident with Gessner Farrell left his race car approached Gessner and threw his steering at the at Gessner as race cars were  still moving around the race track. How foolish , dangerous and  unnecessarily aggressive

The penalty imposed by the sports administrators was just. One year disqualification from racing in Australia. With his past record and given the many chances and opportunities he had had over the years, the penalty is both fair and just. I am sure there is more to come on this matter.
