Title Confusion-Speedcars

Championships what do They Mean This week end in Brisbane a class field of midget Speedcar drivers will gather to contest what Archerfield Speedway promoters would have the fans believe is the Australian Midget Speedcar Title .

Promoters have brought together a class filed which includes USAC super star Dave Darland  who will be driving the Polar Ice Esslinger for Jack Berry Racing together with Nathan Smee , Troy Jenkins and New Zealand’s Michael Kendall

The program will run over two night and will offer some spectacular racing .  Advertised as the Australian Midget Championship , this is nothing more than a promoters staged event.

Speedway needs big money events to attract the best drivers from overseas and from within but to advertise it as the Australian Midget Championship is misleading and  the promoters misses the opportunity of developing his own uniquely prestige event .

The event should be promoted as a Special Archerfield event that can run annually if that’s want  and build it owns reputation without lessening the status of the true and nationally sanctioned Australian Speedcar Championship.

Wining this event this coming week end while satisfying to the winning driver   won’t rate anywhere near the achievement of winning the Australian Speed car Championship and having the right to carry the prestige number 1 on the midget tail.

The Australian Speedcar Championship is scheduled to be decided over the week end of February 8 and 9 and will be held at the Perth Motorplex at Kwinana.

The words Australian Champion are very special and unification is important if the sport is to continue to grow and attract crowds..
