MONDAY SPEEDWAY MEMORIES
Sydney Showground Saturday night September 25, 1965
Every Saturday night throughout the season the promoters tempted your appetite with mighty solo and Sidecar action before the Mighty Midgets hit the track for another of their cracking Feature races.
With the Speedway closed over the winter months tonight was just the tonic Speedway fans had been waiting for all through the Sydney Winter of 65
There was plenty of news to report on the opening night, the announcement of the CRAVEN FILTER 2,000 pounds, yes not dollars for the Drivers’ Championship for 1965-66. The series would run at all 5 of the major Tracks at that time, sadly all 5 have since closed.

The information page from the program on the night is a good read with all the series details covering the Championship
New from that night’s program featured another retirement story on Johnny Peers as he provides the ride in his number 2 to a young Howard Revell son of the legendary Australian Champion Ray Revell.
As soon as you got into the Speedway you forked out the sum of one Shilling (10cents today’s money) grabbed the program and read up on all the Speedway news (Jottings). Here is some of the news from the night of September 25, 1965
Two of the drivers racing on the night were Peter Cuneen and Kevin Park.
Kevin Park won a World Derby beating US Champions and Peter Cuneen in 1961 while leading the World Derby suffered an in creditable crash when his steering box suffered a sheared pin sending the little Twin Cylinder no 4 in horrible series of high rolls and into the Pit wall .Cuneen was unhurt, can you believe the photo. I was there WOW! Amazing escape
